The Customs Union and Eurasian Economic Union member states may consider the legal status of migrant workers from Kyrgyzstan prior to the country's entry into the groupings, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a press conference on September 4 in Moscow following the talks with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldayev.
The process of Kyrgyzstan's accession in the Customs Union and Eurasian Economic Union is being accelerated now, he said. “In any case, when this happens, all agreements in any sphere will automatically apply to Kyrgyzstan as a country member as well,” Minister Lavrov explained.
The bilateral working group was created to address the issues encountered by migrant workers from Kyrgyzstan as part of migration reforms carried out in Russia, the Minister added. The given reforms aim to legalize those migrants, who work illegally and whose rights are violated due to absence of legal protection.
The issues related to legal and comfortable stay of migrant workers are under discussion, Minister Lavrov underscored.
Prior to Kyrgyzstan joins all migration instruments existing in the Eurasian Economic Union, there are rather important bilateral mechanisms allowing to resolve many issues already at the current stage, Minister Lavrov concluded.
